Kanienkehaka of Kahnawake Law Second Hearing recap, agenda for next meeting

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission wishes to advise the community of the results from last evening’s third meeting of the Second Hearing for proposed amendments to the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Law (formerly known as the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law). The results are as follows:
- Definition of Common-Law Relationship: passed by consensus
- Definition of Iah teionkwehónwe passed by consensus
- Section 15.1 (Suspension of Entitlements): Consensus was reached, with one objection, on the current wording of 15.1, provided the Technical Drafting Committee deals with the issue of ‘co-habitating/leasing and suspension of entitlements’ is addressed either in this Law or in the proposed Kahnawà:ke Residency Law.
The KLCC wishes to remind the community that the fourth meeting of the Second Hearing will take place next Tuesday (1, Onerahtohkó:wa/May 2018), with a fifth meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 15 Onerahtohkó:wa/May 2018. Both Hearings will take place at the Golden Age Club from 6pm to 8:30pm.

- Sec. 9: Composition and Powers of the Community Review Board
- Sec. 10: Application for Recognition
- Sec. 11: Adopted Children
- Sec. 13: Responsibilities of Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke
- Sec. 14: Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Pledge
- Other Sections previously scheduled, time permitting
