MCK directs Canada to convert Highway 30 Lots A, B, C and E to Reserve Lands

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that Chief & Council have passed an amendment to Mohawk Council Executive Directive (MCED) #63/2017-2018 to authorize the Federal Government to proceed with, as rapidly as possible, the issuance of an Order in Council declaring Parcel “C” of the Highway 30 returned lands to be converted to reserve Lands, and to proceed with the signature of the occupation permit for the currently existing Bell Mobility Tower Site.
Additionally, this amendment authorizes the Federal Government to proceed with the acceptance of Parcel “E” as rapidly as possible with the issuance of an Order in Council declaring Parcels “A”, “B”, and “E” to be Reserve Land to be added to Kahnawà:ke.
“This hinges on the Federal Government committing to play a key role in addressing unresolved issues that the MCK still has with Quebec and the town of Chateauguay concerning these lands,” said Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton..
The amendment to the MCK was passed unanimously.
