Housing Review Update
06/20/2018
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to update the community on the operational and financial assessment of the MCK Housing Department.
The Finance Department has assumed financial oversight of the Housing Department until further notice. Clients will be contacted as part of the assessment and are advised that the MCK will make no attempt to collect on a debt owed in a Housing file before this review is complete. As well, the MCK will not evict any tenant because of debts that have accumulated during the period under review.
“I will be contacting all clients on an individual basis,” said Executive Financial Officer Paul Rice. “I will be the point of contact for all clients until the assessment has been completed. The community and media have many questions. Rest assured, those will be answered upon completion of the review.”
At this time, clients are advised that mortgage and rental payments should be made only at the MCK Main building.
Please be reminded that the MCK cannot comment further at this time until the assessment is complete. The purpose of this update is to ensure Housing clients this issue is being reviewed, who is in charge of that and where to make payments.
The MCK is asking for the community’s patience while this review takes place.
