MCK meets on possible traffic mitigation for Mercier Bridge works
06/28/2018
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that MCK representatives met with Quebec Transport Minister André Fortin, surrounding mayors, and representatives from the Ministère des Transports (MTQ) this morning to discuss possible traffic mitigation measures in regard to the Mercier Bridge repair ‘blitz’ that is currently underway.
The MCK representatives were invited by the Mayor of Chateauguay Pierre-Paul Routhier and the office of Member of the National Assembly (Quebec) representing Chateauguay, Pierre Moreau.
Among the mitigation being considered:
- Proposed truck ban during rush hours
- Proposed removal of tolls for trucks on Highway 30 during these times
- Possible free use of public transit on the south shore (bus & train)
- Possible temporary train stop at Adirondack Junction
“This was a very important meeting,” said MCK/MTQ liaison David Lahache. “We must acknowledge the mayor and Mr. Moreau for the invitation. We are ‘ground zero’ when it comes to the Mercier Bridge, so it would be unacceptable to not be included in any discussions regarding enhanced mitigation measures on our territory.”
