MCK Budget Released
03/26/2008
Today, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawá:ke released its 2008/2009 Budget to the
Community at a Press Conference held at the MCK Main Building.
This year’s MCK Budget is slightly lower than last year, at just under $45 million.
Despite slightly lowering the overall budget, the MCK is proud to hi-light nearly $2 million
dollars in major investments to Kahnawá:ke’s long-term Social Prosperity. In addition to
contributions to the Kanienkehaka Onkwawenna Raotitiohkwa ($350,000), Kahnawake
Youth Center ($125,000) and the Kahnawake Fire Brigade ($275,000), which also
benefited last year, new initiatives this year which fall into this category include the new
Kahnawake Survival School’s Water & Sewer system ($220,000), renovations to the
new Kahnawake Library ($210,000), the Kahnawake Recreation Path ($200,000) and
the Kahnawake Lacrosse Rink ($150,000). These contributions are part of the $44.8
million dollar budget. Many new initiatives within MCK Operations were not met.
“Though this is my first MCK Budget released to the Community, I am proud to say that
we have followed the strict guidelines my predecessors have put into place. Tight
financial controls and accountability are the foundation for this budget. I am very proud
of the Directors and Chief & Council for being able to meet Community needs with
limited resources”, said Director of Financial Services, Marcy Delisle.
