The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton and Ietsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer are traveling to South Africa to meet with John Moshal of the gaming software company Microgaming on potential language initiatives funding.
The meeting, which will take place in Durban, South Africa, was requested by Mr. Moshal. He expressed an interest in renewing his relationship with the MCK. Of note, in 2003 Microgaming made a five-year commitment to provide Kahnawà:ke with $250,000 to develop the Rosetta Stone Kanien’kéha language software.
“Microgaming has had a long, successful relationship with the Kahnawake Gaming Commission,” said Grand Chief Norton. “Through the efforts of John Moshal, the Rosetta Stone project was a great success – it’s still in use today and has been a great tool in language revitalization in Kahnawà:ke. We look forward to meeting our old friend as we continue our relationship.
Grand Chief Norton and Ietsénhaienhs Sky-Deer, who holds the Language Portfolio for the MCK, will return to the office next week.
