MCK announces additional Feedback Period on proposed Kahnawake Cannabis Control Law

08/30/2018

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that an additional community feedback period of one week is taking place for the proposed Kahnaw:ke Cannabis Control Law. The Feedback period will end next Thursday, 6 Seskehk:wa/September at 4pm.

While we were impressed with the feedback received in April and May, the Drafting Team feels that, after the two information sessions, it would be a good idea to offer an opportunity for additional feedback, stated Ietsnhaienhs Rhonda Kirby who, along with Ietsnhaienhs Gina Deer, is responsible for the proposed law on behalf of the MCK.

Canadas legalization of the recreational use of cannabis is one of the largest shifts of public policy in many years, she added. It is clear that the community supports the creation of our own laws and regulations, and we are committed to getting it right. Its very important that people have their say on the matter of cannabis.

The draft law is posted on the Cannabis page of the Kahnaw:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission website at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com/pages/cannabis.

Comments can be made online or by contacting Kenitsnhaienhs Gina Deer or Rhonda Kirby, or MCK Technician Dennis Diabo. All can be reached at 450-632-7500.

Additionally, the power point presentation used at the information sessions held on 21 and 28, Seskha/August are also available for viewing click here.
