CP Rail Vegetation Control Spot Spraying

08/31/2018

The Public Safety Unit wishes to inform the community that after follow-up inspections by CP Rail conducted last week, it was determined that while much of the tracks remain vegetation free, two spots now need to be sprayed to ensure the safe operation of the trains. CP Rail has requested permission to treat the areas before it becomes a danger to safety.

The sections are close to the lift bridge area across the Seaway and over the ′North Wall,′ away from residences.

Where possible, the vegetation will be removed with brush cutters and hand trimmers. It is anticipated that the whole spraying process will take ten (10) minutes. As only a minimal amount of chemicals will be used, permission will be granted.

Staff from the Public Safety Unit will monitor the spraying to ensure that all best practices are followed. The process is expected to take place in the coming weeks.

This spraying is not the same as the annual Spring herbicide spraying. Responding to concerns from the community, CP Rail did not conduct the annual herbicide spraying of the rail tracks this past spring in order to reduce the use of chemicals in the community.

The process is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
