Iroquois Caucus to Meet in Ottawa

04/10/2008

A meeting of the Iroquois Caucus originally scheduled for 17-18 Onerahtókha/April at Six Nations has been moved ahead to 13-15 Onerahtókha/April in Ottawa.

The reason for the change is due to the confirmation of the Caucus’ presentation at the Parliamentary Standing Committee Hearings on Bill C-30 on Monday, 14 Onerahtókha/April. The Caucus is scheduled to meet the same day with representatives of the Federal opposition parties to discuss their concerns regarding the law, which would change the process of settling Native land claims in Canada.

Additionally, the Caucus will meet on other issues, such as Border Crossing, the proposed Matrimonial Real Property Law and overall planning and strategy.

Chiefs Johnny Montour and Martin Leborgne will attend on behalf of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, along with a technical support team.
