The Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language & Cultural Center (KORLCC), the Turtle Island Theatre & the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK), would like to inform the community that the Feasibility Study has been received and is currently under review. We are pleased to confirm that the Study demonstrates that the site is in fact viable for the future building. The Feasibility Study in its entirety will be housed at KORLCC for all Community Members to view, review and/or make suggestions/comments for a period of two to three-months (dates to be announced).
The group overseeing the project will make a Presentation on the results of the Feasibility Study to KORLCC & the Turtle Island Theatre Board of Directors, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke and to the larger community.
The Quebec Ministère de la Culture et des Communications (MCC) is currently in review of the study; and will provide their recommendations to the Feasibility Study within a two to three-month timeframe. Both MCC and Canada (Canada Heritage) will be solicited for the future capital costs of the future building.
In the meantime, the building committee is reviewing funding applications, for the future capital costs of the proposed Multi-Purpose building.
By no means is this message stating that the building is going at the “proposed” site, adjacent to the Kahnawake Survival School. As promised the Community will be properly consulted and be part of the decision of our future Cultural Center, Museum & Theatre.
If you have any questions you can contact or Lisa Phillips at KORLCC 450-638-0880 ext 69234 or Trina C. Diabo at MCK, 450-632-7500 ext. 50278.
