Grand Chief to meet with AFN Chief, Seigneury Chief Federal Negotiator
04/24/2008
Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr. has two important meetings scheduled for today.
First, he will meet with Chief Federal Negotiator John Lemieux today as part of the on-going joint Seigneury of Sault St.Louis Negotiation Process. The Grand Chief will be joined by Chiefs Rhonda Kirby and Martin Leborgne, along with the Seigneury Technical team. The all-day session is being held in Kahnawà:ke.
Second, Chief Delisle will meet with Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine to discuss Kahnawà:ke’s overall discontentment with the AFN and, more specifically, Kahnawà:ke’s (and the Iroquois Caucus’) rejection of the AFN-supported Bill C-30.
“The issues may be coming to a head,” said Chief Delisle. “It isn’t only our community who is dissatisfied. Most of the Quebec chiefs are showing a level of frustration that could lead to a split from the national organization. I think Mr. Fontaine needs to hear this.”
