The Public Safety Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke and the Kahnawake Fire Brigade want you to have a safe holiday season. The following are some tips for Christmas Tree Fire Prevention:
Cut 5 cm from the trunk before placing it in the stand.
Water the tree every day.
Ensure lights are for indoor use only and are safe to use.
Place tree away from heat sources (candles, fireplace, wood stoves, heaters
Turn lights off before bed or when leaving your home
Don�t overload the light sockets (no more than three strands plugged into each other)
Take your tree down within four weeks of putting it up
Ensure your smoke alarms are working
