Public Safety and KFB address incident at Fuel Depot

02/20/2019

The Public Safety Unit and the Kahnawake Fire Brigade (KFB) are informing the community of an incident that took place at the Fuel Depot this morning, located next to the Peacekeepers station. The KFB was first on the scene and indicated that an accident took place that resulted in diesel fuel overflowing from the tanks as they were being filled.

An initial assessment of the area has shown that the fuel was contained in the surrounding structure of the fuel tanks. However, as a precaution, further investigating of the area will be carried out to determine if any fuel had contaminated the ground area.

"We have protocols in place that address such issues with the priority being the safety of individuals," said Director of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips. "Proper follow-up with environment services is in process to ensure proper containment and cleanup is carried out."

“There is no immediate risk to the public,” emphasized Phillips.
