MCK issues clarifications on Cannabis products for safety purposes

03/18/2019

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community about health and safety concerns regarding Cannabis products.

Kahnawa’kehró:non should be aware that sale, cultivation and processing of ANY cannabis product (CBD and/or THC strain) is prohibited. This includes all consumables, edibles, beverages, creams, topicals and lip balms.

Possession of cannabis products is legal only if it is within the prescribed amounts and if it was obtained from a licensed source such as the SQDC. At this time, NO edibles or topicals are legal anywhere in Canada, which means there have been no measures taken to ensure the product is safe.

“This is a matter of the health and safety of all community members, especially children who might have access to these products,” said Ietsénhaienhs Tonya Perron. “We have a continued responsibility to inform and educate the community on this important matter.”

Ietsénhaienhs Perron and Ratsénhaienhs Ross Montour will be guests on this Friday’s ‘MCK Friday’ on K1037 to speak about this issue in greater detail.
