Chiefs in Ottawa for Conference

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke has announced that Chiefs Kenneth McComber, Johnny Montour and Melvin Zacharie will be in Ottawa to take part in the National Aboriginal Governance Forum.

The conference takes place on Wednesday and Thursday (14-15, Onerahtohkó:wa/May) and, according to the literature, “will explore the elements of good governance and demonstrate how to overcome barriers that hinder good governance.” Agenda items include Current Government Policy; Capacity Building, Putting Good Governance in Place; and Negotiation of Government-to-Government Tax Administration and Sharing Agreements.

Well-known former B.C. Chief Manny Jules, who now heads the First Nations Tax Commission, and Dr. Joe Miskokomon of the First Nations Statistical Institute are among the speakers and presenters.

The conference is organized by the Pacific Business and Law Institute.
