MCK announces changes to Portfolio Allocations
04/09/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that formal approval was given at yesterday’s duly-convened Council meeting for changes to the MCK Portfolio Allocations. The approval was unanimous.
The changes were made following a Portfolio Allocation review to reassign portfolios necessitated by the resignation of Lloyd Phillips as Council Chief and adjust the portfolio structure.
Ratsénhaienhs Frank McComber, who was elected to office on February 23rd, is the new lead on the vacant Public Safety Portfolio. Additionally, he has been assigned to the following portfolios:
- Economic Development
- Indigenous Rights & Research
- Regulatory Boards/Commissions & Labor
Of note, the Community Safety Portfolio has been split into two separate portfolios. First, the Public Safety Portfolio will address issues related to the safety of the public, regulatory boards, policing services, fire prevention & response services, and legislative matters. This portfolio includes inspection and monitoring services, such as environmental health officer services. The lead Portfolio Chief is Frank McComber, with Harry Rice also assigned to the file.
Second, the new Regulatory Boards/Commissions & Labor Portfolio will address issues related to regulatory boards and commissions (including the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission, Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Board, Alcoholic Beverages Control Board, Tobacco Control Board, and Kahnawà:ke Athletic Commission). Matters related to Legislation, and workers on the Territory are also included in this portfolio. Mike Delisle, Jr. is the lead Portfolio Chief, with Frank McComber, Ross Montour and Tonya Perron also assigned to this file.
Finally, Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton was formally added to the Health and Education Portfolios.
