04/29/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Ietsénhaienhs Gina Deer is in Phoenix, Arizona as part of a delegation participating in a Trade event.
She is part of a Montreal-based group that includes representatives from Kahnawà:ke and Akwesasne who are meeting with business and political representatives in the Phoenix region. Included on the itinerary are meetings with various Indigenous communities/leaders.
“We were approached by the City of Montreal to see if we were interested in working together to create opportunities that could benefit all parties,” stated Ietsénhaienhs Deer, who is the lead on the Economic Development Portfolio. “The organizers have taken an innovative and refreshing approach to this event. Part of the agenda includes meetings on new technology, and related law & policy development. Additionally, there will be visits to the Gila River Indian Community, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.”
“Our commerce patterns have tended to be east/west in recent years,” she added. “It’s time we rise to the challenge of creating more north/south opportunities. We hope this gathering will be a step in that direction.”
Ietsénhaienhs Deer will return to the office on Thursday, May 2nd.
