Section of Old Fort Wall next to Youth Center removed for safety

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke is advising the community that approximately 90 feet of a section of the Old Fort Wall between the Kahnawake Youth Center and the Kateri Hall has been removed for concerns over safety.

The work took place this afternoon (Thursday) after it became clear that the crumbling structure could cause serious injury if corrective measures weren�t taken immediately. Removal of the debris will take place tomorrow (Friday) morning.



Community members, children in particular, are asked to avoid the area until the stone is removed tomorrow.

At this early point it hasn�t been determined whether the historic structure will be repaired; however, it is likely that the matter will be discussed in the next few days.
