Nitsénhaienhs Ross Montour and Harry Rice in Quebec City to attend Archaeology conference

05/14/2019

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Nitsénhaienhs Ross Montour and Harry Rice are attending the joint Annual Meeting of Canadian and Quebec Archaeological Associations taking place in Quebec City from Wednesday to Saturday, May 15-18, 2019.

The theme of this year’s meeting is “Heritage at Risk.” According to the Canadian Archaeological Association, the theme was arrived at, “in recognition of the many challenges confronting the preservation and accessibility of the archaeological record, archaeological sites, landscapes, collections and intangible cultural heritage. This theme highlights possible looming crisis for archaeologists, heritage resource managers and the public, as well as potential policy education and technological solutions.”

The MCK has had an increasing role in the field of archaeology, most importantly to ensure that all developments in this field respect our heritage, and to create and maintain any links that will assist in fulfilling that mandate.

Nitsénhaienhs Montour and Rice are both responsible for the MCK’s Heritage Portfolio (along with Portfolio Lead Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer). They are being accompanied by Christine Zachary-Deom and Gaetan Nolet, who are contracted by the MCK to work on this file.
