Final Community Decision Making Process “Mock Session” Thursday Evening
05/21/2008
The third and final “mock session” for the new Community Decision Making Process will be held on Thursday evening (22, Onerahtohkó:wa/May) from 6 to 9pm at the Community Room located at the Peacekeepers station.
The mock session is being held to help the community familiarize themselves with the way laws and major community decisions will be made in the near future. The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke announced in April 2007 that all legislation will be enacted using this new process.
“We are urging the community to participate in the process, and to confirm and/or improve the values and principles upon which we’ll be basing our laws,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr. “Once this is done, we can begin the process of creating, passing and/or amending laws based on direct community involvement, as per the community’s wishes.”
There are currently two proposed laws awaiting the implementation of this new process: the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act and the Kahnawà:ke Occupational Health and Safety Act.
