Ietsenhaienhs Gina Deer attending MRC des Laurentides festivities

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawa�kehr�:non that Iets�nhaienhs Gina Deer is attending festivities taking place today at Val David to celebrate the diversity of people living within the MRC des Laurentides region.

�We were invited because we do a lot of work with the people in the region, particularly those who have been resisting the plan to clear cut some of the forests up here,� said Iets�nhaienhs Deer. �In particular, we share the concern regarding the threat to the forest on Mt. Kaaikop would have a detrimental impact on Tiower�:ton.�

�I�m using this opportunity to maintain our relationships, perhaps create some new ones, and stay abreast of developments on the logging situation,� she continued. �We�ve been working with several groups in the area, particularly our neighbors in the town of Ste. Lucie. They have made a great point of acknowledging and respecting our presence in the area, so we felt it was important to be part of their event today.�
