Kahnawà:ke Wins $50,000 in Playground Equipment from Kompan
07/11/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that Kahnawake has won the First Annual Canadian Matched Funding Grant from Kompan.
The MCK wishes to officially thank Kompan , and their local distributor Atmosphäre , for this very generous matched-funding grant of $50,000 in playground equipment for Sesame Park.
The Sesame Park project is utilizing an inclusive approach, designed to create a sensory playground for interaction between elders, children and families. This park will feature equipment for children with special needs to reduce social isolation and strengthen community bonds, as well as an 18-hole mini putt.
Given Sesame Park’s need for new facilities, the lack of special needs equipment in the community, and the close proximity to the Elder’s Lodge, it was felt this was the ideal location for this project.
“We are very grateful to Kompan for selecting us for this grant. That’s $50,000 extra towards equipment that the youth are going to be able to enjoy,” said General Manager of Recreation MacKenzie Whyte. “It means our park is going to be twice as nice as we originally planned.”
Construction of the park will begin in the fall.
