Fieldwork on North Wall this week
07/15/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that fieldwork will be occurring along the North Wall of the St. Lawrence Seaway on Tuesday, July 16th (rain date Wednesday, July 17th).
The fieldwork is part of the Mercier Bridge construction project and will be done to inventory salamander, delineate wetlands, and characterize plant species. Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) staff will accompany technicians from the engineering firm WSP and the Ministère des Transport du Quebec for the duration.
The MCK would like to remind the community that this fieldwork is part of the preliminary works required for the new southbound span of the Mercier Bridge.
KEPO’s role in this project is to ensure that all aspects of our community’s environmental concerns are protected throughout this project.
Chief and Council would also like to reassure the community that it is working with all parties involved in this project to protect our land, rights, and interests. If you would like more information, please contact Ietsénhaienhs Rhonda Kirby at 450-632-7500.
