MCK to remove soil with asbestos-containing pipe fragments
07/30/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake wishes to inform the community that Chief and Council have agreed with the recommendations of the Public Safety Unit and the Environment Protection Unit to remove soil with asbestos-containing pipe fragments and replace it with clean soil starting in areas within Lot 106. The soil was originally moved during Capital construction projects.
“Right now, the important thing is we clean it up, and we clean it up properly,” said Public Safety Portfolio Chief Frankie McComber.
Chief and Council understand the sensitivity of the issue. A special ad hoc committee has been created to deal with this issue specifically. More information will follow in the coming weeks.
“Many Community members have expressed their concerns, Chief and Council share these concerns” said Clinton Phillips, who leads the Environment portfolio.
For questions and concerns, please contact the Public Safety Unit at 450-632-0635.
