Construction of a SplashPad at the Kahnawake Sports Complex
08/01/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is pleased to announce the beginning of construction of a new Splashpad at the Kahnawake Sports Complex. Construction began with the initial pipe installation yesterday, Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
The Splashpad is part of the Sports Complex Fields Project, which included the construction of a baseball diamond, new soccer fields, and tennis courts.
Additional upgrades to the Kahnawake Sports Complex will include new safety markings, parking signage, and removable speed bumps to ensure the safety of the children using the facility.
“Children and elders are more vulnerable to the effects of heat stroke, and heat exhaustion and, unfortunately, the temperature is rising during the summer due to climate change,” said General Manager of Recreation MacKenzie Whyte. “Many families have multiple children and find themselves at the arena most of the day; we wanted to provide community members with relief from the heat between games in a safe environment.”
Any local businesses or other organizations who would like to donate or be part of this initiative or sponsor the splashpad are invited to contact MacKenzie Whyte at 450-638-0500.
