Grand Chief Hands Chief Federal Negotiator ‘Letter of Displeasure’
05/28/2008
Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle Jr. met this afternoon one-on-one with Seigneury of Sault St. Louis Chief Federal Negotiator John Lemieux in Montreal. This was a follow up to the most recent meeting between negotiation teams for Canada and the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, which Chief Delisle has described as “very disappointing.”
“A letter was hand-delivered to Mr. Lemieux based upon our displeasure in the outcome of last week’s meeting,” he said. “The letter sets out the discussion points and parameters that we expect Canada to respect in order to maintain a relationship.”
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke and Canada have been in negotiations regarding the Seigneury land grievance since 2005.
