Newly-elected Cody Diabo begins term, MCK accepts Oath of Office

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that newly-elected Ratsénhaienhs Cody Diabo began his term of office and made the formal Declaration of Oath of Office at this morning’s duly-convened Council meeting.
The Declaration was accepted unanimously by all remaining members of the Elected Council via a Mohawk Council Executive Directive.
The Oath of Office acknowledges that the primary duty of an Elected Council Chief is to serve the community. Additionally, he/she must be accountable to the community; disclose conflicts of interest; act in good faith; and act within the scope of proper authority. The Oath of Office also acknowledges that an Elected Council Chief will be subject to actions and measures set forth in the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Disciplinary Measures Regulations. Ratsénhaienhs Diabo was elected in the By-Election conducted on Saturday, October 19, 2019 to fill the vacancy caused by Carl Horn’s resignation on September 19, 2019.
