Update on dismantlement of Hydro-Québec Line 2
10/23/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community on developments regarding the dismantlement of Hydro-Québec’s Line 2, which passes through the Territory. It is expected that the line will be dismantled within the next two (2) years.
Once the line is removed, Hydro-Québec has agreed to deregister the ‘perpetual servitudes’ from each of the affected lots. This means that affected lots will be free from any towers, overhanging wires, or rights-of-way and will fully revert to the owners.
As preparations to remove the towers are underway, efforts are being made to ensure that Kahnawà:ke entrepreneurs have access to opportunities to conduct some of the work. Hydro-Québec, in collaboration with Tewatohnhi’saktha and the Kahnawà:ke Labor Office, is planning an information session on Wednesday, 20 Kentenhkó:wa/ November to present information about requirements, prerequisites and mandatory certifications needed to prepare a bid.
The session will take place at the Host Hotel. Additional details will be forthcoming.
