Rainfall and Wind Warnings in effect for Kahnawake
10/31/2019
The Public Safety Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to remind community members to be prepared as Rainfall and High Wind Warnings have been issued by Environment Canada for our region.
The rainfall warning is in effect immediately with 50mm – 80mm of rainfall expected to fall up until Friday morning.
The wind warning predicts speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, beginning Friday morning. Warnings of this nature are issued when there is significant risk of damage caused by the wind.
Homeowners are strongly urged to check that their sump pumps are functioning properly. Please note that no local organization pumps basements due to flooding. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to be prepared.
Additionally, as trick-or-treaters are venturing out this evening, please be careful when driving and roaming the streets, as heavy rain limits visibility.
Visit the Environment Canada website to follow forecasts and weather warnings or call the PSU at 450-632-0635 for more information on emergency preparedness.
