Iets�nhaienhs Gina Deer in B.C. to present at Indigenous Cannabis and Hemp conference

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Iets�nhaienhs Gina Deer is attending the National Indigenous Cannabis & Hemp Conference taking place in Kelowna, British Columbia from today until Thursday.

Iets�nhaienhs Deer has been invited to present on Kahnaw�:ke�s jurisdiction in this matter, including the creation of laws using the Community Decision Making Process, as well as implications on our Justice system and Lands Unit.

�There is a genuine interest in not only the law but in the processes used to implement them,� said Iets�nhaienhs Deer. �Kahnaw�:ke has been very proactive in asserting jurisdiction over our Territory. The way in which we have approached the legalization of cannabis has captured the attention of other Indigenous communities � not just cannabis, but jurisdiction as a whole.�

Iets�nhaienhs Deer will be back in the office on Monday, 2 Tsoth�hrha/ December.
