Norton & Phillips in Ottawa for AFN Special Assembly

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton and Rats�nhaienhs Clinton Phillips are in Ottawa to attend the Assembly of First Nations �Special Chiefs Assembly� taking place from Tuesday to Thursday. Among the agenda items are discussions on Bill C-92 (�An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit & Metis Children�) and British Columbia�s implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. Additionally, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Affairs, Minister of Indigenous Services Marc Miller, and NDP Party Leader (and Indigenous Affairs critic) Jagmeet Singh are scheduled to speak at the Assembly.
Rats�nhaienhs Phillips has confirmed that Minister Miller will meet with Kahnaw�:ke on Wednesday morning.
Grand Chief Norton & Rats�nhaienhs Phillips are in Ottawa today for several pre-Assembly meetings, including an Anishinabek Nation/Iroquois Caucus Nuclear Waste Working Group networking meeting.
Nits�nhaienhs Norton and Phillips are expected to return to the office on Friday, December 6th.
