12/03/2019
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to announce that Michael O’Brien has retired from his position as Director of Labor with the Kahnawà:ke Labor Office and that Oliver Montour has been selected as his replacement.
Mr. O’Brien’s last day as Director was Friday, November 29th, while Mr. Montour’s first day was yesterday (Monday, December 2nd).
“We’d like to thank Mike O’Brien for taking on the challenge of developing the Labor Office over the past several years,” said Ratsénhaienhs Mike Delisle, Jr. “He worked extremely hard to fulfill the Office’s goal of ensuring Kahnawà:ke’s workers are properly trained, get a fair wage, have a safe working environment, and receive proper treatment in the event of workplace injuries.”
Previous to his Directorship at the Labor Office Mr. O’Brien was the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Council of Chiefs, as well as the Director of the then-Social Development Unit (now Client-Based Services).
The transition process is expected to be seamless.
“Oliver has worked very closely with Mike for the past few years and really has a firm grasp of the mandate of the Labor Office,” Ratsénhaienhs Delisle continued. “He has proven to be very knowledgeable and competent in his field, with a great deal of experience to draw from – which bodes well for the continued development and growth of the Kahnawà:ke Labor Office.”
Mr. Montour has held various positions within the MCK, most recently as the Construction & Certification Manager in the Labor Office.
