Kahnawake Peacekeepers respond to a call for assistance with a domestic disturbance

On the evening of December 8, 2019, at 6:10pm, the Kahnawake Peacekeepers responded to a call for assistance with a domestic disturbance in the New Development.
A perimeter was created, and a standoff ensued. Several shots were fired. No shots were fired by the Peacekeepers.
At approximately 10pm, a local 30-year-old male suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The male was taken to a Montreal hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Peacekeepers remain on scene, while an independent investigation is being conducted by an outside agency.
In the meantime, the Peacekeepers ask that community members respect the privacy of all those involved.
