Blue Collar Park Online Survey launched
01/21/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to invite community members to participate in an online survey to gauge opinions on the location of a new Town Garage that would incorporate Public Works (maintenance, roads, heavy equipment), Capital Unit, Waste Management Department, and School Bus Depot all in one area away from the village proper. The area recommended is in the Clay Mountains on the Seaway Road.
The area being considered for the so-called Blue-Collar Park would see the removal of thousands of tons of stone and clay deposited from the building of the Seaway. It has been designated as commercial lands for many years, but Tewatohnhi’saktha has indicated there are no plans to use it for that purpose.
“As we’ve stated earlier, the move will result in increased safety for pedestrians and vehicular traffic,” said Ratsénhaienhs Lindsay Leborgne. “It’s a move whose time has come. We appreciate the feedback we’ve received so far and await additional comments via this survey.”

The concept of transferring the Town Garage to the Blue Collar Park was first announced in June 2019 and an educational campaign took place in December 2019 and January 2020.
For questions or comments, community members can also contact Ratsénhaienhs Lindsay Leborgne by calling the MCK at 450-632-7500.
