The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to express its extreme concern about remarks made by Premier François Legault today, regarding “AK-47’s in Kahnawà:ke.”
The MCK and, indeed, all of Kahnawà:ke, is concerned that the Premier is conducting himself and speaking in a reckless manner that will undoubtedly inflame a situation that has been peaceful from its very inception.
“The Premier needs to be far more careful in his actions,” said Ietsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. “Once certain statements are made, they often can’t be taken back. Using terms like “armed” and “AK-47’s” is extremely inflammatory and, in fact, dangerous. It could be interpreted as an intent to incite a response.”
The MCK also wishes to dispel the Premier’s false statements that the Peacekeepers are working with the Sûreté du Québec to dismantle the site at Adirondack Junction. “Simply and unequivocally put, this is false,” Ietsénhaienhs Sky-Deer concluded.
“We maintain that our people have been conducting themselves peacefully and with honor throughout this challenging time,” she concluded. “We all have a responsibility to keep things peaceful – and the Premier of Québec is no exception.
