Seigneury Negotiations Today, Quebec Negotiator to Attend
06/11/2008
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke announced that there will be a Seigneury of Sault St. Louis negotiation session today between Kahnawà:ke and the Federal negotiating team.
Recently-appointed Quebec Seigneury Negotiator John Parisella is expected to attend to introduce himself to the teams. At this point, the negotiations remain between Kahnawà:ke and Canada, who have been negotiating the 300-year-old grievance since 2005.
“It’s taken twenty years to get everyone to the table,” said Grand Chief Michael Delisle Jr., referring to the 1988 launch of the ‘modern’ movement to resolve the grievance. “While we have made progress over the past few weeks, we’d like to remind the community that we have a long way to go. We must stay focused – and we must remain positive.”
