Mercier Bridge Art Contest POSTPONED
03/26/2020
Due to the current situation with COVID-19, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) and the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges, Incorporated (JCCBI) have postponed the Mercier Bridge Art Contest for local artists.
The contest, which was announced by the MCK and JCCBI on February 10 of this year, will be put on hold until further notice.
“It’s a regretful decision but, due to the pandemic, we thought it would be prudent to postpone the contest,” said Ietsénhaienhs Rhonda Kirby. “We’ll still be taking submissions during the postponement and will announce a new deadline once we resume normal day-to-day operations.”
“On the plus side, this may actually be a good time for our artists to be creative,” she added. “With people being asked to stay in their homes, this may be very good time to spend time on their artwork. The first contest in 2017 was very successful in highlighting local artists, so we’re all looking forward to the 2020 version!”
The contest, which was supposed to close tomorrow (Friday, March 27th), will continue to accept submissions via email at artcontest@mck.ca
