No 5G towers in Kahnawake
04/08/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that there are no towers being erected in the Territory to provide 5G services. All current towers are serving either local Wi-Fi traffic or cellular phone technology up to 4G. For further clarity, currently only Rogers Communications has plans to roll out 5G services on the island of Montreal, the city of Ottawa, and the City of Toronto. “Kahnawà:ke is not being considered for 5G services,” said Ratsénhaienhs Lindsay LeBorgne, who is the lead on the MCK’s Telecommunications working group. “First, our population is too small and deployment costs cannot be justified at this time. Second, any new towers have to be approved by the MCK, and there have been no recent requests by any of the local service providers.”
