Tyendinaga restricted to local traffic, no hunting and fishing
04/15/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our sister community of Tyendinaga is restricting traffic into its territory and has instituted a ‘local traffic only’ directive similar to Kahnawà:ke. In a letter sent to the elected Councils of Kahnawà:ke Akwesasne, Kanesatake, Six Nations, Wahta and the Oneida of the Thames, Chief R. Donald Maracle asks that members of the sister communities not visit Tyendinaga for their annual hunting and fishing at this time. “We must all work together to resist the spread of COVID-19,” said Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton. “Each of our communities is struggling to contain the pandemic. One of the most effective means of stopping the spread is to avoid all travel. Once we get past this – and we will – we shall collectively reopen the doors to all of our neighbors and friends. We ask that Kahnawa’kehró:non please respect the wishes of our sister community.” For further information, Chief R. Don Maracle can be reached at 613-396-3424.
