RCAF Snowbirds to fly over Kahnawake this afternoon

05/07/2020

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke wishes to inform the community that the Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds aerobatic team will fly over the community this afternoon as part of its Operation Inspiration series of flights to help bring some cheer to communities along its flight path.

The flyover is expected to take place over the Territory at some point between 1:20pm and 1:45pm. Kahnawakehr:non should note that the jets will fly at a low level, with resulting noise levels that may startle those who are not expecting the display.

The RCAF informed us over the weekend that they were planning an event in the area and contacted us via the Kahnaw:ke branch of the Legion to see if we would be interested in the flyover, said Ratsnhaienhs Cody Diabo. We agreed that it would be a nice gesture to help bring a little excitement to our people. Like everyone else, we have been struggling to deal with the pandemic, and Operation Inspiration will, hopefully, do just that and bring a little something special to our community. We received confirmation this morning that Kahnaw:ke would be included in the program.

The jets will enter Kahnaw:ke airspace from the east.

The Snowbirds launched the program on the East Coast on Monday and are making their way to visit hundreds of communities across Canada.

The MCK wishes to remind people to respect personal distancing for the event.
