Drone to be used in Rec Bay Project pre-construction phase

05/21/2020

The Kahnaw:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) wishes to advise the community that a drone will be employed tomorrow (Friday, May 22) to complete surveys on Tekakwitha Island and the shore along the bike path on the mainland. This work is necessary to provide a visual overview of the area before construction begins on the Recreation Bay project.

The drone flights will be in addition to surveys of the depth of sediment in the bay that will be occurring at the same time. A KEPO staff member will be assisting our consultant, GEO Morphix Ltd. with this work.

The project contractor, Rice Mohawk Landscaping, has already begun staking out some of the work areas on the island.

KEPO has been working to ensure that restoration activities are ready to begin as soon as safely possible. All activities are being coordinated with the COVID-19 Task Force to ensure compliance as KEPO moves forward with this essential project.

Please note that KEPOs Director Lynn Jacobs and Project Manager Patrick Ragaz will discuss the project on the K1037 Tetewath:ren talk show on Friday, May 22nd at approximately 12:05pm.

For more information, please contact KEPO at environment.protection@mck.ca or through KEPOs Facebook page.
