Soils with Asbestos fragments to be removed
06/07/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that a company that specializes in the removal of asbestos containing materials (ACM) will be in the community beginning tomorrow (June 8th) to remove soils from three (3) properties.
The company, Sanexan Environmental Services, Inc., will remove the soils from affected areas. All necessary precautions and processes being utilized will meet or exceed the regulations governing such matters. The properties will be fenced off with tarpaulins to prevent/reduce dust, and all soils will be watered prior to being moved/removed.
“Advance notice is being given, so no one should be alarmed that workers will be dressed in the company’s required working gear, including masks, which is standard operating procedure in this type of work,” said Ratsénhaienhs Cody Diabo, the Lead on the Asbestos Working Group. “Once the affected soils are placed into the trucks for transport, an additional layer of clean soil will be place on top for additional safety and security.”
“We apologize for the time it has taken to address this problem,” he continued. “As we have all learned, this is a complicated matter. We have consulted with world-class experts to ensure we remove the material safely and efficiently – once and for all.”
All work will take place between 7am and 5pm from Mondays to Fridays. It has been estimated that the work will take three (3) weeks to complete. A consultant has been hired to develop a plan for the rest of the affected areas.
Any comments or questions can be addressed to Ratsénhaienhs Cody Diabo on behalf of the Asbestos Working Group at 450-632-7500 or cody.diabo@mck.ca.
