State of Emergency extended to July

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to advise the community that the current State of Emergency was formally extended for an additional 30-day period at yesterday’s duly-convened Council meeting. The Mohawk Council Resolution, which was passed by consensus, includes the extension of the Mandate for the COVID-19 Task Force.
The original Declaration of State of Emergency was ratified on April 21, 2020. By law, The State of Emergency must be renewed on a monthly basis. This current extension expires on July 21, 2020.
The Declaration of State of Emergency was taken to ensure the protection of Kahnawà:ke’s jurisdiction during the COVID-19 pandemic. It allows for changes to various public safety laws of required to ensure the next phases of the pandemic are addressed.
