Kahnawake Economic Relief Measures Fund mandate extended for 90 days
06/24/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to announce that the mandate of the Kahnawà:ke Economic Relief Measures (KERM) Fund has been extended for 90 days.
An additional $3 million has been added to the KERM to provide sufficient funds to continue to assist community members and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, for a total of $12 million. This includes a $1 million donation from Mohawk Online.
The KERM was initiated pursuant to a Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force directive to the MCK’s Executive Team to address income security and economic disruption issues as a result of the emergency measures taken in response to the pandemic. It is managed jointly by Tewatohnhi’saktha and the MCK’s Client-Based Services.
“While there have been some minor issues, the KERM Fund has been a crucial component in addressing shortfalls experienced by businesses and workers alike during this challenging time,” said Ietsénhaienhs Gina Deer, who is one of three elected Council Chiefs who sit on the board overseeing the KERM. “The original $10 million has not been used up, but we wish to be prepared should the situation continue. The KERM Fund has allowed us to address our community’s safety and financial needs quickly, efficiently and effectively”
Persons/businesses needing assistance should contact Tewatohnhi’saktha at 450-638-4280 or MCK’s Client-Based Services at 450-638-0500.
