06/29/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to offer condolences to the family, friends and former colleagues of Stuart Phillips, who passed away this past weekend at the age of 85.
Mr. Phillips served one term on Council from 1974 to 1976. He was a former ironworker and, later, became an historian and well-known as an expert on the Seigneury of Sault St. Louis; he worked for the MCK on that file for many years, retiring in July 2007. He was the father of former Ratsénhaienhs and current Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a resident of the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre for the past several years. He leaves behind his wife Alice, along with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and a large extended family. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced at this time.
A moment of silence was observed at the start of today’s Council meeting to pay tribute to Mr. Phillips.
