07/07/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to invite Kahnawa’kehró:non to online discussions on the Kahnawà:ke Residency Law, which is currently in the pre-implementation phase.
There will be two (2) sessions planned for this Thursday, July 9, 2020. The first will take place at 11am, with the second scheduled for 7pm.
“This is an extremely important but complex law, so it’s crucial that the community has the opportunity to get as much education and accurate information as possible,” said Ietsénhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, who is the Lead on the file. “With the pandemic still underway, we felt that conducting these sessions online would be the responsible thing to do.”
Topics of discussion will include:
- Overview of the separation between membership and residency
- Explanations of various categorizations and permits
- How the application process will work
- Open question & answer period
The sessions are open to persons recognized on the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Registry. For details and to sign up for the sessions, it is essential to contact Client-Based Services at 450-638-0500.
