Fieldwork to Treat Local Ash Trees POSTPONED
07/29/2020
THIS WORK HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL TOMORROW DUE TO FORECASTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON.
The Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) would like to inform the community of environmental fieldwork occurring to treat Ash Trees in the Territory. Work is scheduled to take place this afternoon (Wednesday, July 29, 2020).
KEPO has retained the services of arborists Groupe DESFOR to carry out follow up annual applications of TreeAzin to forty-six (46) local Ash Trees. TreeAzin is a natural, botanical, systemic insecticide that can be used against the Emerald Ash Borer to protect high value Ash Trees. The trees in question are located on common land and Groupe DESFOR technicians will be accompanied by KEPO staff.
Trees treated with TreeAzin require treatment every year during the EAB infestation. Treatments began in Kahnawą:ke in 2018. Funding for treatments this year was obtained through Tree Canadas #OperationReleaf program.
If you would like more information, or if you need help identifying a tree, please contact KEPO at environment.protection@mck.ca or 450-635-0600.
