Cannabis Regulations Survey
07/29/2020
The Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Board is seeking Community input on regulations for the cultivation, processing, distribution and sale of legal cannabis. A survey is being conducted until August 10th to gauge opinions on various aspects of the regulations such as location, number of permits, consultation and products. Draft regulations will be completed by the Board after receiving Community input from the survey and will be posted online thereafter for a 30-day review.
“The cannabis regulations will provide the mechanism for the full implementation of the Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Law and will allow for a strictly regulated industry within the Territory,” said Ietsénhaienhs Tonya Perron, who is the lead on the Cannabis file on behalf of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, along with Ratsénhaienhs Ross Montour. “Once the regulations are completed and enacted, licensed production, processing, distribution and sale of safe cannabis products will be permitted. The youth will be protected by ensuring that only those that meet the minimum age requirement of 21 years of age have access to the sale of those products. Furthermore, there will be a community-wide benefit through the mandatory community contributions,”
Surveys will be conducted by independent contractor Brandon Bordeau via telephone. He will be contacting random homes using the Kahnawà:ke Telephone Directory within the same timeframe as the online survey. Please note that no in-person surveys will be done due to restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As stated above, the survey can also be taken online by clicking here.
