Distribution of Community compost collection bins

08/11/2020

The Waste Management Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to inform the community that compost bins will be distributed to people who are interested in participating in the community compost collection.

The compost collection program pools together the organic waste of the community and turns that into rich soils. The rich soils (great for gardens) are shared with Kahnawą:ke participants twice each year, giving back to those who have a collection bin and actively contribute to the communal program.

Waste Management is encouraging more community members to participate as there are many other benefits to composting. The program reduces landfill waste, helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, positively affects air quality in addition to creating nutritious rich garden soil.

Waste Management will be set up at the Knights of Columbus Parking Lot from 8am – 1pm on Wednesday, August 12th, 2020.

Safety precautions are set in place:

  • One vehicle at a time.
  • Social distancing required.
  • Please do not attend if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
For more information please contact the Waste Management Department at 450-632-4321 or send a message to the Waste Management Facebook page @Recyclinginkahnawake.
