08/17/2020
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to inform the community that the current State of Emergency has been extended for another month at a duly-convened Council meeting held yesterday (16, Seskéha/August 2020). The Mohawk Council Resolution also includes the extension of the Mandate of the Kahnawą:ke COVID-19 Task Force. It was passed by Consensus.
The extension was requested by the Task Force and will allow the Task Force to continue its work to address the ongoing pandemic.
The original Declaration of State of Emergency was ratified on April 21st, 2020. As has been stated previously, the State of Emergency must, by law, be renewed on a monthly basis. This extension will expire on September 21st, 2020.
The State of Emergency was put into effect to ensure the protection of Kahnawą:kes jurisdiction during the current pandemic. It allows the Task Force the means to ensure the next phases of the pandemic are addressed on a timely basis.
